Shoptet, or a custom e-shop?

We build both, so we have no reason to push either. Here's how to decide based on what you actually sell.

We get this question with every e-shop inquiry. And since we build both, we have no reason to push one solution — we'll just help you pick the one that fits your business.

When Shoptet makes sense

Shoptet is a Czech out-of-the-box platform — you pay a monthly plan and you're selling within weeks.

  • You're starting out and need to find out whether there's demand at all.
  • You sell standard products — clothing, accessories, food — with no special sales logic.
  • You want Czech integrations out of the box: payment gateways, Zásilkovna, PPL, POS systems, invoicing. Shoptet has all of that solved.
  • You don't want to deal with the tech. Updates and security are the platform's problem, not yours.

Even a boxed platform needs an expert hand, though: a template tailored to your brand, properly set-up categories, shipping, payments, and emails. That's exactly what we do for our Shoptet clients.

When a custom e-shop makes sense

  • Your sales have their own logic. Configurators, per-customer pricing, B2B ordering, made-to-order production — a boxed platform starts limiting you fast.
  • You need integrations with your systems. Inventory, ERP, accounting, production. With a custom build we can connect anything that has an interface.
  • The e-shop is the core of your business and you want to own it — no monthly platform rent, no platform ceilings.

Expect a higher upfront investment (from 60,000 CZK with us) and a longer build. The reward is a solution that grows with you, instead of you growing into its ceiling.

Our honest recommendation

For most new e-shops, Shoptet is the right first choice — and we say that as a studio that would earn more on a custom build. You can always move to a custom solution later, once you know exactly what you sell and where the box limits you. The opposite journey — from an overpriced custom build back into a box — hurts a lot more.
